Chula Vista, CA – December 4, 2024 – Firefighters responded to a “Smoke Check” call at around 7:23 a.m. in the Chula Vista Nature Center parking lot, near the E Street exit from southbound I-5. Upon arrival, crews discovered a large fire in a homeless encampment in heavy brush. Hearing cries for help, firefighters rescued a woman, two other individuals, and two dogs from the flames. Several propane tank explosions occurred during the firefighting efforts. Additional firefighters from Chula Vista joined in, and the fire was contained within 15 minutes. No injuries were reported.
